7 Ways to Address Facial Aging
The natural aging process can lead to unwanted facial changes, such as deep wrinkles and excess, sagging skin. Fortunately, there are a variety of surgical and non-surgical approaches designed to help patients restore a more youthful appearance and elevate their confidence. At Holzman Plastic Surgery, board-certified plastic surgeon Steven Holzman, MD, offers multiple treatments designed to address aesthetic concerns related to facial aging. Below, Dr. Holzman highlights some top options.
BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport®, and Jeuveau™
One of the most effective non-surgical ways to address dynamic facial lines and wrinkles is with neuromodulators, such as BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport®, and Jeuveau™. These popular injectable formulas work to temporarily improve the appearance of lines and wrinkles caused by overactive muscles, including those that form between the eyebrows, at the corners of the eyes, and around the nose and mouth.
Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers are another minimally-invasive treatment option to help patients achieve a smoother, more youthful facial appearance without the need for surgery. Most dermal fillers—such as JUVEDERM® and Restylane®—are formulated with hyaluronic acid, a naturally-occuring substance found in the skin. Depending on the patient’s goals, fillers can help add volume underneath the skin to smooth out wrinkles, create fuller lips, and/or add desirable definition to areas such as the cheeks and jawline.
Blepharoplasty
As a result of the natural aging process, skin may become weakened and prone to sagging, which can create an exhausted, sad, or angry appearance. Drooping skin can even lead to obstructed vision, in some cases. Also known as an eyelid lift, blepharoplasty lifts and contours the skin and far around the eyes to address both cosmetic and functional concerns. Eyelid surgery can be performed on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both.
Facelift
A facelift is one of the most comprehensive and long-lasting methods of rejuvenating the face. This customizable surgical procedure can address a range of concerns, such as wrinkles, sagging skin, unwanted fat accumulation and/or volume depletion. The facelift procedure involves tightening the underlying muscles of the face and removing or recontouring excess fat and skin, resulting in a smoother, younger-looking facial aesthetic that still appears natural.
Neck Lift
Patients struggling with loose neck skin (often called “jowling”), excess fat beneath around the chin and neck, and/or muscle banding may benefit from neck lift surgery. A neck lift can address these concerns by removing excess skin and tightening lax muscles, so the neck and jawline appear smoother, firmer, and more youthful. Those who might not need a full neck lift may benefit from chin liposuction, where localized fat deposits in the neck region are reduced.
Brow Lift
A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, can elevate the browline and improve the appearance of deep creases that form between the eyebrows. With longer-lasting results than injectables, brow lift surgery can reduce tension between the eyebrows and dramatically improve the appearance of wrinkles on the upper region of the face, offering patients a more refreshed and energized look.
Skincare Products
Rejuvenated skin can be achieved through non-surgical options, like medical-grade skin care. Products like retinoids, moisturizers, and sunscreens can help protect the skin from accruing damage while also improving its overall texture and tone.
